LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNIT
The Columbia County local governmental unit (LGU) plans, develops and monitors services for Columbia County residents who experience mental illness, addictions or developmental-cognitive disabilities. Our charge is to continually determine what is needed to enhance the quality of life for those adults and children experiencing these disorders and then meet any un-met needs identified to ensure that appropriate recovery opportunities are accessible and affordable to everyone. LGU is proud of our communitys' network of public and private not-for-profit treatment providers serving our vulnerable friends, neighbors and relatives.
The LGU's mission is to develop and maintain a coordinated intergrated continuum of services which permits all individuals to reach their personal potential and live their lives with dignity and independence. It is our belief that recovery is obtainable, treatment is effective and that the role of government is to see that high quality services are accessible and affordable to the maximum extent possible. We value the principles of community inclusion with respect to housing, employment, socialization and health care for individuals with disablities. We continually strive to combat stigma related to disabilities and promote a message of hope to anyone who may be experiencing despair and isolation.
